A YOUNG woman has been accused of smashing a beer glass over a man's head in a row in a Dublin nightclub.
Saoirse Martin (21) is alleged to have struck the man with the glass after the pair threw drinks over each other.
Dublin District Court heard the alleged incident began after the two argued.
Ms Martin then threw a drink over the man, it was alleged.
The alleged victim reacted by throwing his drink over Ms Martin, the court was told.
According to the prosecution, Ms Martin then struck him in the head with her glass.
He later had two dissolvable stitches put in his head in a hospital emergency department.
Judge Alan Mitchell asked if there had been any scarring or ongoing problems.
A garda sergeant said this was not in a medical report presented to the court.
The sergeant said he believed that the cut was 0.5cm, which "would be quite small".
He said the alleged victim had gone to his GP after the incident and was "not making any issue" of scarring.
Ms Martin, with an address at Shangan Gardens, Ballymun, is charged with assault causing harm to the man at Dusk nightclub, Northside Shopping Centre, Coolock on January 24, 2015.
The charge is under Section 3 of the non-fatal offences against the person act.
Judge Mitchell accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case, which means it can be dealt with in the district court.
He ordered disclosure of prosecution documents and adjourned the case to a date in July so Ms Martin can indicate how she intends to plead.
She was also granted free legal aid.
