Truant (16) attacked his own mother
A TEENAGER, who attacked his mother when she discovered he had been playing truant, has been spared a custodial sentence.
The boy (16) had pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to assaulting his mother at their north Dublin home on a date in March last year.
The court had heard that gardai were called to the boy's home and learned that the then 15-year-old "pressed his arm against his mother's chest" and pinned her against a piece of furniture leaving her with a temporary mark on her chest.
During his hearing, the court heard the row arose from the mother's concerns that her son had not been going to school.
The court imposed a nine-month probation bond on the boy. As conditions of the bond the teen was ordered to accept help from his probation officer to develop "victim empathy", to seek training or employment and to take part in a youth mentoring programme.
