Three on murder charge

THREE men have been charged with the murder of a Dublin father-of-three.

The men, aged between 27 and 35, were brought before a special sitting of Dublin District Court late last night, where they were charged in connection with the death of 'Champagne' Johnny Carroll.

He was gunned down just over a year ago at a well known pub in the Coombe.

The men charged are Christopher Zambra (35), from Galtymore Rd, Drimnagh; Peter Kenny (28), from McCarthy Tce, Rialto, and Damian Johnston (27), from Cashel Rd in Crumlin.

They were remanded in custody to appear again next week before Cloverhill District Court.

Officers from Kevin Street Garda Station have led the investigation since Carroll (33) was shot dead on February 18 last year in Grumpy Jacks pub.

The victim, who worked as a car salesman, was shot a number of times in the stomach, hips and arms as he sat drinking with pals in the bar after watching a soccer match.

Two detective sergeants, Adrian Whitelaw and Michael McNulty, gave evidence of arresting Damien Johnson and Peter Kenny, while Detective Inspector JJ Keane said he arrested Christopher Zambra and charged all three with murder.

All three have to go to the High Court for bail so there was no application last night.
