Teen 'hid drug inside an egg'

A JUDGE has ordered that a 13-year-old boy, who was allegedly was caught with 20 deals of cannabis hidden inside an egg, is to stay in custody for his IQ to be tested.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy said yesterday that the boy, now 14, who is being held a detention centre on remand, needed to be psychologically and educationally assessed.

Dublin Children's Court heard that there was consent to the boy being remanded in custody further.

New charges were also brought again the teenager for criminal damage to a car and theft from a shop.

The boy, who will again appear before the court next month, has not yet entered a plea to the charges.



Vampire-killing kit sells for ¤7k

A Victorian vampire-slaying kit has sold at auction for £7,500.

The collection of weapons and other objects in a wooden box attracted a flurry of interest at a sale in North Yorkshire. The kit included a pistol, a bottle of holy water, a crucifix and wooden stakes with a mallet.

The kit, thought to be heading for a museum, was sold by a Yorkshire woman who inherited it from an uncle.



Hillary stands

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has taken a stand for women's reproductive rights during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro.

Clinton told the audience yesterday that she applauds the final document's endorsement of women's sexual and reproductive health as an essential element in sustainable development. But she said ensuring women's ability to control when and whether to have children is essential.



Turkish jet is



'shot by Syria'

A Turkish military jet disappeared on yesterday while flying over the Mediterranean Sea near Syria, and both countries were searching for it.

It was not clear if the F-4 jet went down in Syrian waters.

In Lebanon, Hezbollah's Manar TV said Syrian forces shot down the Turkish plane, citing Syrian security sources.
