A THEN 13-year-old boy was caught with 20 deals of cannabis hidden inside an egg, a judge has been told.
Dublin Children's Court also heard it was uncertain that he can be psychologically assessed at a young offender detention centre because the service is not available during the summer months.
Judge Ann Ryan criticised this adding that the issue needed to be highlighted; she said the court's needs were not seasonal and it could require the specialist assessments of young defendants year round.`
The boy, now aged 14, has been charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply to another, on October 31 last, travelling on a stolen motorbike, on December 31 last and driving without insurance and a license, on April 23.
Judge Ryan remanded the boy, who was accompanied by his mother, in custody for one week and directed that he was to be psychologically assessed.
