Suspect in threats to city publican case poses in sun photos
THIS is the globetrotter accused of threatening a Dublin publican -- living it up in a Portuguese resort this week.
Pictures show Derek Nolan sunning himself with pals in the 30C heat, as he waits to go on trial charged with threatening city publican Shane Simpson.
The 29-year-old was this week enjoying a relaxing break with a number of friends in Portugal -- just months after he jetted off on an Australian holiday.
Looking relaxed and sun-kissed, Nolan posed for the camera and drank large bottles of cider with his pals.
However, if convicted, he faces up to 14 years behind bars for being among a group of four men charged with threatening Mr Simpson at a city pub.
Mr Simpson was allegedly told by the group -- which includes fellow publican John Stokes -- to close down the Castle pub in Summerhill, North Inner city, "within 24 hours".
Stokes -- the father of Celtic footballer Anthony Stokes -- will go on trial next year along with a notorious Real IRA mobster and a 19-year-old man.
Additional charges have also been brought against Stokes for possessing two stun guns at the Players Lounge pub on April 8 last and assaulting Shane Simpson weeks before.
Nolan and his pals flew from Dublin airport on Saturday and are understood to be staying in a resort in the Algarve.
As part of his bail conditions, he must stay clear of Shane Simpson, his brother Sean Simpson and all other staff members of the Castle Public House. He also must be on good behaviour and regularly sign on at Tallaght Garda Station.
He is scheduled to go on trial next April.
The charges allege the men made a demand with menaces to Shane Simpson, the former leaseholder of the Castle, in Summerhill, to cease trading and "close within 24 hours".
The DPP had directed trial on indictment in relation to the four defendants who are to be tried in the Circuit Court.
Our pictures today show Nolan, of Seacliff Road in Baldoyle, in relaxed mood as he poses for the camera.
In one snap, he can be seen topless, drinking cider.
Nolan previously had his bail conditions lifted which allowed to jet off on a three-week family holiday to Australia.
