Student wrecked €11k TV in pub rage
A LEAVING Certificate student who pulled a TV screen off a pub wall in a drunken rage has told a court he was shocked that it had cost €11,000.
Carl Kinsella (22) pulled the 65ins plasma TV off the wall after he got into a drunken argument with a friend.
The defendant had previously handed over €2,000 towards replacing the TV, and the matter was before the court for him to pay the balance of €3,000, after the parties agreed on compensation of €5,000.
However, unemployed Kinsella said he had been unable to raise any more cash and was up to his neck in debt with moneylenders.
Judge Patrick McMahon said he accepted the "reality" of Kinsella's financial woes. He adjourned the matter for a report to see if Kinsella was suitable for 150 hours of community service in lieu of three months in prison.
The defendant, of Beatty Grove, Celbridge, Co Kildare, had previously admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to criminal damage.
The incident took place in the Celbridge House, Maynooth Road, Celbridge, on May 27 last year.
