A STUDENT has been accused of punching another student in an unprovoked attack as he stood talking to his girlfriend in a pub.

Daniel Hyland (20) is alleged to have left the victim with a permanent scar under his eye.

The accused, of Ballymun Road, Glasnevin, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with assault causing harm.

The alleged incident took place at Taylors Three Rock pub, Kellystown Road, Rathfarnham on October 29 last year.

Garda Sergeant Bernard Jones told the court that the victim was at a college social night with his girlfriend.

As he was talking at the bar, it will be claimed, Hyland approached the victim and punched him with a closed fist to the left side of his head.

It will be alleged the man was left with a deep cut below the eye and was badly bruised.

Defence solicitor Andrew Sheridan said Hyland would give a different version of events. The case was adjourned for four weeks.
