A STUDENT who lost control of a friend's car and crashed into a wall seriously injuring one of the passengers has been banned from driving for five years.
Yuliya Podzorova (20) and two of her friends walked away from the accident in Stillorgan unharmed, but a fourth man was rushed by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital with serious injuries.
The defendant was not insured to drive the 1998 Wexford-registered car, which belonged to her boyfriend's friend.
The defendant, of Obelisk Avenue in Blackrock, had admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
The incident took place at Brewery Road, Stillorgan, on July 15, 2009.
Garda Paul Kelly said Podzorova lost control of the vehicle on Brewery Road, crashed into two parked vehicles and into a wall.
There were four occupants in the car, including Podzorova, and three of them were unharmed in the crash.
A fourth passenger was taken by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital with serious injuries.
Garda Kelly said the two parked vehicles were completely written off in the crash.
Judge Clare Leonard said the accident had a very serious outcome for one of the passengers, and that Podzorova's driving was extremely dangerous.
The judge sentenced her to three months in prison suspended for three years, and disqualified her for five years.
