State gets more time in €1m drug seizure case

PROSECUTORS have been given three months to prepare their case against three Dublin men charged following the seizure of an estimated €1m of cannabis.

The accused were arrested following a joint operation between the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Revenue's customs service earlier this month,

Gavin Mulvey (34), Jonathan Carberry (34) and Elliott Kidd (24) all appeared in Dublin District Court.

Judge Anthony Halpin granted bail to the three men and when their cases came back before the court, gardai sought a "lengthy adjournment" for the directions of the DPP to be made available.

Defence solicitors consented to this and Judge Halpin remanded the accused on continuing bail, to appear in court again in September.

Mr Mulvey of Kiltalown Road, and Mr Carberry from Marfield Green, both in Tallaght and Mr Kidd, of Mabel Street, Dublin 3 had all been given bail at a previous hearing.

They are all charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply at Bath Lane, Dublin 1 on June 11.

Detective Garda Rebecca Daly previously gave evidence that the estimated value of the drugs was €1m.

None of the defendants have yet indicated how they intend to plead.
