Son loses his job after arrest over mum death
A MAN accused of killing his elderly mother while on her deathbed in a nursing home has lost his job since his arrest.
Gerard Vollrath (46) has been unable to return to his home in Austria since he was charged with Vera Vollrath's unlawful killing. Mrs Vollrath (83) was found dead at the Killure Bridge Nursing Home on January 9.
Yesterday, her son Gerard, an aircraft engineer, appeared before Judge David Kennedy at Waterford District Court.
Vollrath was accompanied by his sister Anna Kirk in court.
The court heard how the accused had lost his employment since January 17 as he was unable to return to Austria. Part of his bail conditions are that he resides at an address in Co Waterford. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and all travel documents.
Judge Kennedy adjourned the case before remanding Vollrath on continuing bail until Friday, when he is due to appear before Waterford District Court.
