Socialite DJ in court charged with taking €3k

THIS is the socialite and ex-DJ accused of the alleged theft of more than €3,000 in two incidents in Dublin last year

Aaron Weinrib (34), a friend of top model Ali McDonnell and a former student at Rathgar's exclusive High School, was remanded on continuing bail when he appeared in court.

His case was adjourned after a judge was told that the DPP was seeking more time to prepare the case against him.

Weinrib, with addresses at Heather Court, Stepaside Park, Stepaside, and a flat at the Lower Rathmines Road, is charged with stealing a total of €3,750 in two incidents last year.

He is alleged to have stolen €550 at an address at Charlemont, Griffith Avenue, and another €3,200 at the Stout Bar, Rathmines, both on June 3 last year.

He sat at the back of Dublin District Court number 2 as he waited for the proceedings to begin last week.

Wearing an open, striped shirt, white tee-shirt and light brown trousers, he made his way to the dock when his case was called before Judge Timothy Lucey.

It was his second court appearance on the charges and the State solicitor said she was seeking a further adjournment for the DPP's directions to be made available. This will determine whether the case can be dealt with at District Court level or whether it will have to be sent on to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where the potential penalties on conviction are more severe.

Passport

Defence solicitor Tony Collier said Weinrib was consenting to the remand and Judge Lucey adjourned the case to May 9. He did not address the court during the brief hearing.

The accused had been on bail under condition that he surrendered his passport and signed on daily at a south Dublin garda station. However, the court heard bail conditions had since been relaxed.

Weinrib was until recently sharing a house in Rathfarnham with model Ali McDonnell and her partner Mark Dempsey. Neither Ms McDonnell nor Dr Dempsey have any connection with Weinrib's case.

Ms McDonnell had reportedly allowed him to stay with her for several weeks because she was concerned about the case against him.

The accused, who is known in Dublin social circles as a DJ, has now moved out of the couple's home.

Ali McDonnell, one of Ireland's best known models, is a friend of Fade Street's Vogue Williams and was also close to Katy French.

The 28-year-old has twice cancelled plans to marry Dr Dempsey, with whom she has a son. She has two other children from a previous relationship.

She previously dated Ivano Cafolla but that relationship ended in December 2007.
