Shoplifter caught after going back to steal more from store
A mother-of-two who shoplifted household items from a department store was caught after returning four days later and stealing more.
Magdalena Skarpanska (32) was identified as the thief from CCTV footage.
At Blanchardstown District Court, Judge David McHugh ordered a probation report before sentencing in October.
Skarpanska, of Parnell Close in Mulhuddart, admitted two counts of theft from Homesense, Westend Retail Park, Blanchardstown, on March 26 and March 30.
Sergeant Maria Callaghan said the defendant first entered the store and took household products, valued at €160.
She was not stopped by security staff and the property was not recovered.
Sgt Callaghan said Skarpanska returned to the shop four days later and shoplifted more household items, this time with a value of €280.
Again, these were not recovered.
Sgt Callaghan said Skarpanska was identified as the culprit from CCTV footage after she was apprehended when she entered the shop on a third date.
The court heard that the defendant had never been in trouble before.
Defence solicitor Fiona Brennan said the court would benefit from a probation report, saying that in this case she believed it was necessary.
She asked for an adjournment to September to allow the defendant time with the Probation Service.
Ms Brennan added that Skarpanska was the mother of two young children. She worked part-time and was also in receipt of social welfare.
Judge McHugh assigned Ms Brennan on free legal aid.
