SEVEN men charged with using baseball bats and golf sticks during an alleged violent disorder incident in Swords have been sent forward to the Circuit Court for trial.

Joe McDonnell Junior (20), Martin McDonnell (24), Patrick McDonnell (24), John McDonnell (28), James McDonnell (30), Thomas McDonnell (37) and Joe McDonnell Senior (43) are all alleged to have set upon a woman while she was driving her car through Lissen Hall estate in Swords on November 15 last following an alleged feud.

The men are all related.

Garda Ciaran McGeough of Swords Garda Station told Swords District Court it is alleged that the seven men set upon the woman using the weapons while she was in her car.

He said the alleged incident was as a result of an alleged feud.

All seven men are charged with violent disorder, causing criminal damage of a car and the production of articles during the course of the dispute in the estate last November.

James McDonnell, John McDonnell, Joe McDonnell Junior and Joe McDonnell Senior all have addresses at Gardiner's Hill in Balbriggan, Co Dublin.

Patrick McDonnell has an address at Lissen Hall Green in Swords, Co Dublin, while Thomas McDonnell has an address at Castlegrange in Swords.

Martin McDonnell has an address at Turvey Woods in Donabate, Co Dublin.

Garda McGeough served the books of evidence on each of the seven men at Swords District Court on Monday.

He told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions consents for the matters to be returned for trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where the penalties upon conviction are potentially more severe than at District Court level.

Judge Dermot Dempsey gave the men the alibi caution, warning them they have 14 days to provide to the State details of anyone they propose calling as witnesses in their defence.

Gda McGeough told the court there are no objections to the men being remanded on continuing bail.

However, he asked Judge Dempsey to impose several bail conditions including that all seven men stay out of the Lissen Hall Green area of Swords and to have no contact whatsoever with the alleged injured party.

Judge Dempsey imposed the bail conditions and remanded the men on continuing bail to appear before Court 5 at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on July 24.
