Sat-nav thief left left trail of blood

A THIEF who stole sat-navs and a stereo from three parked cars was identified when gardai saw him bleeding from wounds he suffered from breaking the windows.

Dean Masterson (22) was jailed for a year over the break-ins to cars in the north city.

Masterson, of Kilkiernan Road, Cabra, admitted three counts of criminal damage and three counts of theft at Connaught Parade, Phibsboro on August 28, 2009.

He was arrested nearby and taken to Mountjoy Garda Station, where he admitted the offences. The property taken had a total value of €1,100 and was never recovered.

Each car had the side passenger window broken and Masterson admitted doing this with a brick and a stick he found on the road.

He had previous convictions for criminal damage.

Defence solicitor Kelly Breen said Masterson was apprehended because he had hurt himself and there was blood on him from a cut to his lip and his finger.
