Pizza man broke colleague's nose, says garda

A PIZZA delivery man is alleged to have repeatedly kicked and punched another delivery man in the face and body in a vicious attack outside his workplace.

Harminder Singh (22) is alleged to have left the man with a broken nose in the shopping centre assault.

He is now facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court after the matter was deemed to be too serious for the District Court.

Singh, of Ellensborough Lodge, in Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with assaulting another delivery man.

The alleged incident took place at Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rathfarnham, on September 15 last year.

Garda Sgt Bernard Jones said the alleged victim also works as a delivery driver and was heading into work to collect some food when he was approached by several men.

Sgt Jones said the victim was unsure whether he was approached by two or four men who allegedly threw him to the ground, surrounded him, and repeatedly kicked and punched him to the face and body.

Sgt Jones claimed the victim received several blows to the head, and was left with a broken nose, bloody face and bruising to the body.

He said a second man had been charged over the assault and is due back before the courts in two weeks.

Judge James McDonnell refused jurisdiction of the matter, saying the allegation was too serious for the District Court.

Sgt Jones said the judge also refused jurisdiction in relation to the allegation against Singh's co-accused.

Judge McDonnell adjourned Singh's case for two weeks to a date in April to allow the two matters to meet up.

The court heard that Singh currently works as a delivery man for a pizza company. Solicitor Padraig O'Donovan was assigned on legal aid.
