Man jailed for smashing ex's room in jealous rage
A MAN "lost the head" and smashed up his ex-partner's bedroom after he found out she was with another man, Blanchardstown District Court has heard.
Desmond Collopy (29) breached a safety order on the night and has been sentenced to four months in prison.
Collopy arrived at the house in Lucan and, after an altercation broke out, he went upstairs and caused damage to the bedroom by smashing a lamp and damaging the walls.
Collopy, of Landen Road in Ballyfermot pleaded guilty to breaching the safety order and causing criminal damage on April 27 last year at a house in Liffey Crescent, Lucan.
Garda John Paul Cushen said the safety order had been in place since 2012 and that Collopy hadn't breached it before this incident.
Gda Cushen agreed with Collopy's solicitor that the defendant was co-operative on the night and admitted the offences.
"His ex was with another man on the night and that was the reason he lost the head," the solicitor said.
The solicitor explained that Collopy left school at the age of 12 due to a leg injury and hasn't had the benefit of an education.
"He lost his head and wrecked the place," said Judge McHugh, imposing the four-month sentence.
