Man fined €200 after making 'rude gesture' to woman in city
A man who made a rude gesture towards a woman who was a stranger to him has been convicted and fined €200.
Aidan Michie (42) was acting in a suspicious manner as he walked along Richmond Road, Fairview, at around 5pm.
Because of his questionable behaviour he came to garda attention, Balbriggan District Court heard.
"He then made a rude gesture towards a woman who was on the other side of the road," said Sgt Eoin McDonnell.
Michie was then arrested, the court heard.
The defendant, of Inverness Road, Fairview, pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive behaviour last November 18.
He has no previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Michie, who lives alone, "will see a psychologist soon".
"He is embarrassed and very apologetic," she said, adding that he had never done anything like this before.
She said the defendant has "held his hands up" and has been "very anxious" about his court appearance.
"He intends to go back to college to study history and psychology," she said.
Judge Dermot Dempsey imposed the €200 fine and conviction.
