Man faces knife and assault charges

A MAN is facing trial charged with a serious assault on another man and producing a Stanley knife in the course of a dispute.

Khaled Elbahan (40) had the case against him adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence.

The defendant, with an address at Harrington Street, Dublin 8 is charged with assault causing harm to a man at Esker Glade, Lucan.

He is further charged with producing a Stanley knife in the course of a dispute in a manner likely to intimidate while committing an assault.

The charges are under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person and Firearms and Offensive Weapons Acts.

The offences are alleged to have happened on July 27 last year.

A State Solicitor told Blanchardstown District Court the DPP was directing trial on indictment.

This means that the case will be sent for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, which has greater potential sentencing powers on conviction.

The prosecution sought a six-week adjournment.

Defence barrister Jennifer Jackson said the accused was consenting to this and was making no further application at this time.

Judge Alan Mitchell remanded the accused on continuing bail.
