Man drank stolen wine in front of Spar store
A thief was caught drinking wine outside the shop he had stolen it from.
Sean Howard (32) had problems with alcohol and abusing gas when he took the bottle.
Judge John Hughes jailed Howard, of Killary Grove, Donaghmede, for eight months after he admitted theft.
Dublin District Court heard Howard went to the Spar store on the Malahide Road, Artane, at 6.50am on June 26 last year and stole four bottles of wine worth €47.
He went there again at 6.10am on July 19 and stole a €10 bottle of wine.
He was seen outside the shop with the bottle and was arrested.
The wine, was recovered but not saleable, a garda said.
"He wasn't in any rush to leave the area," Judge Hughes said.
The officer said Howard was intoxicated in the first incident but in the second he was drinking the wine.
"So I'm not sure exactly how intoxicated he was," he added.
The court heard the wine bottles had been cordoned off at the time and were not for sale.
Howard had 126 previous convictions for theft, burglary and other offences.
