Man accused of assaulting woman he held hostage
A MAN accused of breaking into a woman's home, seriously assaulting her and holding her hostage has been sent forward for trial.
Robert Ziga (27) has been ordered to stay away from the woman, and from any of the witnesses in the case.
He is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court after the DPP ruled the matters were too serious for the District Court.
The defendant, of Willow Wood View in Clonsilla, appeared before Blanchards-town District Court charged with burglary as well as serious assault and false imprisonment.
The alleged incident took place at Woodbrook Hall in Castleknock on May 31 last year.
It is alleged that Ziga broke into the woman's house, seriously assaulted her and falsely imprisoned her in her own home for a period of time.
A State solicitor said the book of evidence was ready and had been served on Ziga, who goes forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Legal aid was assigned to defence solicitor Tracey Horan as well as a senior counsel and a junior counsel.
Judge Brian Sheridan gave Ziga the alibi caution, warning him he had 14 days to provide to the State details of anyone he proposed calling as a witness in his defence.
