In brief: New dad jailed for car offence Drugs-swoop woman cleared
A NEW father caught driving without insurance for a sixth time begged a judge not to jail him because his child is only seven weeks old.
Gary Daly (20) was only "trying to make a few bob" by buying and selling cars, and was occasionally slow to sort out insurance for the vehicles.
Judge James McDonnell sentenced Daly to four months in prison and banned him from driving for 10 years.
Daly, of Old Court Mill, Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to driving without insurance or a driving licence at Killinarden Heights on February 16.
A WOMAN has been cleared of obstructing a garda drugs search by grabbing an undercover officer.
Sarah McCabe (26) had the case against her dismissed after she said she did not hear the garda identify himself when he grabbed hold of her boyfriend.
Judge Catherine Staines dismissed the obstruction charge, saying she had a doubt in the case.
She also dismissed a similar charge against Ms McCabe's boyfriend, William Leonard (38).
Dublin District Court heard no drugs were found in the incident. Both accused, of St Peter's Road, Phibsboro, had denied charges of obstruction at Tara Street Dart Station on June 1 last.
