Football fan drove into a rock

A SOCCER fan drunkenly crashed into a large decorative rock as she was driving home from watching Ireland's opening match in Euro 2012 on television, a court heard.

Danielle O'Hare (24) didn't have any money for a taxi home so she borrowed her sister's car.

Judge Clare Leonard ordered a probation report, adjourned sentencing to a date in September and banned O'Hare from driving for one year.

The defendant, of Moreen Avenue in Sandyford, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to drunken driving, driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance.

The incident took place on Blackglen Road in Sandyford on June 11.

Garda Sergeant Peadar McCann said O'Hare was driving along the road around 1.30am when she crashed into a large decorative rock outside an apartment complex.

Sgt McCann said there was extensive damage to the vehicle.

The court heard that O'Hare ran away from the scene but a taxi driver saw the accident and contacted gardai, who stopped her a short distance away on Sandyford Road.

Judge Leonard said O'Hare was lucky no one was injured.

O'Hare told the court she was drinking with friends in Tallaght and watching Ireland play Croatia in Euro 2012.

O'Hare, who has no previous convictions, said she made a foolish mistake.
