Ex-taxman is wanted for quiz on €4.5m debt

A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a former tax inspector for failing to turn up in court to answer questions over debts of €4.5m to a bank and to the Revenue.

James Leonard Daly (otherwise James Daly, Shay Daly and Seamus Daly) did not appear in court hours after allegedly seeking to urgently transfer €451,282 funds to a Spanish bank account.

Daly (54), Kinvara, Woodleigh Park, Model Farm Road, Cork, is a qualified accountant who worked in the Revenue for around eight years.

He allegedly owes €2.5m to ACC Bank and €2m in taxes.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly issued the warrant against Daly after he failed to appear in the High Court last Friday for continuing cross-examination by ACC.

The judge also made orders restraining Mr Daly leaving this jurisdiction without leave of the court and freezing a sum of €451,282 which he allegedly sought to move.
