Drunk roared at bouncers after row with girlfriend

A FATHER-of-two who got into a heated argument with his partner outside a nightclub turned on the door staff when they tried to calm him down and started roaring and shouting at them, a court heard.

Alan Byrne (25) was also caught throwing away a small bag of cocaine as gardai were placing him in a patrol car.

He apologised for his behaviour, saying both he and his partner had too much to drink. A judge fined Byrne €200.

The defendant, of Kylemore Road in Ballyfermot, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to public drunkenness, threatening and abusive behaviour and possession of cocaine.

The incident took place outside the Red Cow Hotel, Clondalkin on August 8 last.

Garda Jennifer Quinn said she was called to the hotel following reports of a public order incident outside the nightclub.

Garda Quinn said Byrne was very drunk and extremely abusive to security staff and gardai. He was caught throwing away a small bag of cocaine, worth €35, as he was being placed in the patrol car. The court heard that Byrne had 19 previous convictions, mostly for public order matters.

Defence solicitor Terence Hanahoe said Byrne went to the hotel to collect his partner, who was in the nightclub.

A drunken row broke out between them, and when the doormen tried to mollify Byrne, he turned on them and started verbally abusing them, and the gardai when they arrived.

Mr Hanahoe said the whole situation got out of hand.
