Drunk in cell grabbed woman garda

A LOUT arrested on public order matters pulled a woman garda's wrist through a cell door hatch, licked his lips and told her "you'd love to ride me, you little w**ker", a court heard.

Simon Madden (21) said he did not make gestures of a sexual nature to a young garda, or references to sexually assaulting her. He claimed he was walking home from a nightclub when two gardai sitting in a patrol car gave him the 'fingers', then followed him and arrested him for no reason.

Madden, of Glasmore Park in Swords, denied charges of public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour on November 5 last year. He also denied violent behaviour in a garda station. However, a judge sentenced him to 10 weeks in prison and fined him €850.

Garda Deirdre Bradshaw told Swords District Court she was on mobile patrol shortly before 3am when Madden, who was drunkenly walking along North Street, stuck up his middle finger and shouted "f**kin' b*****ds".

Garda Bradshaw said she approached Madden, who was with two friends, and he called her a "useless b*****d".

Garda Barry Conor said Madden was taken to Swords station where he was unruly as he was taken out of the car, kicking doors and threatening officers that he would "have your jobs".

Garda Aine Magee said Madden was put in a cell where he repeatedly banged on the door. At one stage, Garda Magee said she was checking on him and opened the hatch, when he grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand.

She said she screamed, and two female gardai came to her aid and pulled her hand out.

Madden said he would appeal after being found guilty.
