Driver in stab attack for his car, court told

A DUBLIN man has been charged with attempting to stab a motorist in the rib cage as he tried to seize the man's car, a court heard.

John Boylan (23) is alleged to have been in possession of a screwdriver which he used to try to stab the motorist in the incident in west Dublin.

The accused is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court after the charges were deemed to be too serious for the District Court.

Boylan, of Foxdene Avenue in Clondalkin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with unlawfully seizing, through the use of force, a 2004 Dublin-registered vehicle, contrary to Section 10 of the Criminal Law (Jurisdiction) Act 1976.

If found guilty of the offence in the Circuit Court, Boylan faces up to a maximum of 15 years in prison.

The alleged incident took place at Balgaddy Road, Clondalkin on December 19 last year. The case was adjourned to May.
