A DRIVER of a stolen car who punctured all four tyres by racing over speed ramps as he was chased by gardai has avoided a prison sentence.
Gerard Burnett claimed he bought the car very cheaply, and should have known the price was suspiciously good.
Judge Patrick McMahon banned Burnett from driving for eight years and sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for one year, after he paid €1,000 compensation for the damaged tyres.
The defendant, of Dromheath Avenue in Mulhuddart, had admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to drunken driving and using a stolen vehicle on May 21 last.
Gardai gave chase after the car, which did not have lights on, failed to stop at a checkpoint.
