Dad's string of robberies to buy Snow Blow

A YOUNG father-of-two who committed a string of street robberies because of a head shop drug addiction will be sentenced later at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Gary Riordan (21) committed five robberies, one attempted robbery and an assault within three months so he could get money for the now banned substance 'Snow Blow'.

Riordan, of Carton Terrace, Ballymun, pleaded guilty to robbing a teenage boy of his mobile phone and schoolbag at a bus-stop on Oscar Traynor Road in February, 2010; robbing a student of his €250 laptop at Santry in February 18, 2010, and robbing two schoolboys of their phones and one iPod Touch at Lansdowne Road Dart Station, in March, 2010.

He also pleaded guilty to attempting to rob a man's phone near Crown Alley, Temple Bar in April 2010, robbing a youth's phone at St Anne's Park, Raheny in May, 2010 and assaulting a 46-year-old man at Crompton Court, Temple Bar in April 2010.

Sentencing was adjourned until later this year, pending a probation report.
