Dad settles accident case

A FATHER-of-three left in a wheelchair after a car ploughed head on into his van has settled his High Court action for damages.

Joseph McCormack (47), an electrician from The Beehive, Colehill, Co Longford, was trapped after his van landed on its roof, the court heard.

Mr McCormack sued the driver of the car, Ambrose Maguire and its owner, Peter Maguire, both of Johnstown, Rathowen, Co Westmeath, as a result of the accident near Ballinafid, Co Westmeath, on August 28, 2009.

Mr McCormack's counsel, John Finlay SC, said he suffered a devastating spine injury from the accident. Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill was told the case had been settled.
