Dad caught growing €7k drugs in his shed

A YOUNG father who grew cannabis plants to feed his friends' and his own drug habit has been given a three year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Anthony McKeever (28) bought the cannabis seeds and paraphernalia from a head shop and grew 15 cannabis plants valued at €7,000 in his garden shed to divide among his friends.

McKeever, of Heathview Close, Aylesbury in Tallaght pleaded guilty to cultivation of cannabis plants at his home on September 17, 2009.

Garda Lisa Finn told the court that after receiving confidential information, she obtained a search warrant for McKeever's home.

McKeever and his mother were at home when gardai arrived and he immediately told them there were drugs in the house.

"There was a quantity of cannabis herb in a black plastic bag on the kitchen counter and a quantity of the drugs being dried on a clothes horse in another room," explained Garda Finn.
