Barry Watters pleaded guilty

A 42-year-old pervert exposed himself to children going to school, a court has heard.

Barry Watters was later caught with child porn by gardai, who spotted him entering an internet cafe and monitored what he was viewing.

Watters pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two counts of indecency in the city in December 2014, and possession of child pornography at Middle Abbey Street on October 20, 2016.

He has six previous convictions, mainly for possession of child pornography, and one for criminal damage after he soiled a cell at a garda station.

Watters, formerly of Infir- mary Road, Dublin, and originally from Dundalk, Co Louth, was yesterday remanded in custody by Judge Martina Baxter, who ordered a psychologist's report ahead of finalising sentence on December 3.

Upset

A plea in mitigation will also be concluded in December.

Det Gda Brendan Lynn told the court that children on their way to school observed Watters with his penis exposed in Dec- ember 2014.

One upset child was accompanied by her father the following morning and pointed out Watters, saying: "Look, Da, there's that dirty man again."

Watters was arrested and the children were interviewed.

Det Gda Cian Farrelly said that in October 2016 he saw Watters entering an internet cafe in the city centre.

Gardai observed what he viewed using a master computer in the cafe.

Watters handed over a USB key when confronted by gardai and it was found to contain 23 illegal images of child pornography and 422 images of children in various states of undress.

Lawyers for Watters said the offences were an addiction triggered by crisis points in his life.

The court heard Watters had been made homeless a number of times after the media drew attention to his address.
