A DUBLIN youth, who was "out of his mind" on rum when he stabbed his allegedly violent father has been sentenced to 12 months' probation.
The then 17-year-old had said in court he was trying to overcome his own drink problem and claimed his father had been violent to his mother.
Judge Ann Ryan heard that on October 30, 2011, gardai received a report from the victim, who had been stabbed in the abdomen and suffered superficial wounds.
The youth, a father-of-two and now aged 18, has 40 convictions, including possession of a knife.
He had pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court.
