A NEW father who "stupidly" decided to give a neighbour a lift to a garage, even though he was banned from driving, begged a judge not to send him to prison.
Lee Tracey (22) said he'd spent every day with his child since its birth 10 months ago and the baby would miss him terribly.
Judge James McDonnell fined Tracey €2,000 and banned him from driving for five years.
Tracey, of Killinarden Heights in Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to driving without insurance or a driving licence at Belgard Square South in Tallaght on August 14 last year.
The court heard Tracey had four previous convictions, and was serving a three-year driving ban for drunken driving at the time of the incident.
Defence solicitor Kevin Tunney said Tracey had no excuse for his behaviour. He was asked by a neighbour to give him a lift to a garage and he foolishly did so.
The court heard Tracey is the father of a 10-month-old child, and he doesn't want to go to jail because he's spent every day with the child since its birth.
Mr Tunney said Tracey was currently unemployed but his brother, a plumber, was willing to give him a email@example.com
