Balcony crash dad 'was bored and lonely'
An uninsured driver who crashed into a balcony was "lonely and bored" because his wife and children were away, a court heard.
Grigore Calin (31) caused damage to a wall after he accidentally drove into the balcony.
Judge David McHugh fined Calin €200 and banned him from driving for two years.
The defendant, of Amberwood, Mulhuddart, admitted driving without insurance or a licence last July 2 when he appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.
Sgt Maria Callaghan said Calin had crashed into a balcony at Amberwood apartments at around 6pm and damaged the wall.
It has since been repaired by the management company.
Sgt Callaghan said Calin failed to produce his docu-ments. Defence solicitor Matthew Kenny said Calin waited at the scene for two hours for gardai to arrive.
On the day in question, Calin was "lonely and bored" because his wife and children had gone home to Romania.
Calin, a meat factory worker with no previous convictions, had been very anxious about the court case, Mr Kenny added.
