13 face drugs charges after garda sting in south Dublin

Eight men and five women have been charged with the distribution of drugs, including heroin, prescription tablets and cannabis, following a 10-month garda operation in south Dublin.

The 13 were charged at Dún Laoghaire District Court yesterday before judge Anne Watkin.

In each case, the charges stemmed from incidents where the accused allegedly sold drugs to an undercover garda.

The garda operation, which used plain clothes gardaí investigating street dealing in the Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire, Dundrum and Ballinteer areas, was carried out under the name Operation Toothwort. It was conducted between September last year and June this year.

Sally Anne Kane (44) of Shanganagh Cliffs, Shankill, was up on a charge of possession of heroin for sale or supply.

Richard Kershaw (39) of Bentley House, Dún Laoghaire, was charged with three counts of possession of heroin for sale or supply.

Robert Terry (40) of Desmond Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, faced one charge of possession of heroin for sale or supply and two charges of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Tara McCabe (45) from Rollins Villas, Sallynoggin, faced three charges of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply. Declan Fagan (26) of Pearse Park, Sallynoggin, was charged with two counts of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Eileen McCann (32) of Bentley House, Dún Laoghaire, was charged with one count of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Michael Rapple (48) of no fixed abode faced one charge of possession of heroin for sale or supply.

Craig McDonald (30) of Rathsallagh Drive, Shankill, faced one charge of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

John Greene (28) of St Louise's Park, Blackrock, faced three charges of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Tablets

Sarah Greene (26) of St Louise's Park, Blackrock, Co Dublin, faced one count of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Daniel O'Brien (30) of Churchtown Road Upper, Dublin 14, faced a single charge of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

Thomas Clarke (22) of Hillview Grove, Ballinteer, Dublin 16, faced three charges of possession of cannabis for sale or supply.

Louise Crowe (45) of Trafalgar Terrace, Blackrock, was on two charges of possession of prescription tablets for sale or supply.

They were granted legal aid and are due to appear back in court on November 30, except for Eileen McCann who is due back on January 4 next year.
