TWELVE couples celebrated a combined 445 years together at a special Mass in Lusk, Co Dublin.

The couples, most of whom had been married in St MacCullin's Church, were celebrating their 50th, 40th and 25th anniversaries.

During the Mass, celebrated by parish priest Fr Paul Hampson, they renewed their vows and had their rings re-blessed.

"It was a lovely ceremony" said 80-year-old Billy Walsh, from Quickpenny Road, Lusk.

Billy and his wife Angela were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, having married in St MacCullin's on September 15, 1964.

The group also included sisters Patricia Teeling and Fiona Parkinson.

Patricia married Joseph in the church 40 years ago and Fiona married Colm there 25 years ago.

"It was a great idea," said Patricia.

Seamus and Elizabeth Murphy, from Main Street, were celebrating 25 years and hoped the special Mass, which was held for the first time this year, would be a regular occurrence.

There were also special miniature wedding cakes for each of the 12 couples.

Three other couples were celebrating 50 years - Gertie and Gabriel Kelly, Mary and Joseph McGuinness and Marie and George O'Dowd.

Mary and John Thorne and Noeleen and Christopher Moore are married 40 years.

Another three couples celebrated 25 years - Mary Ita and Kevin Niall, Clare and Fintan Sherry and Sarah and Michael Sweetman.
