Could 'hot' Varadkar's political future be in the fashion party?
Outgoing Health Minister Leo Varadkar may be facing an uncertain political future - but at least he's putting his best foot forward in the fashion stakes.
The Fine Gael Deputy - who spent yesterday in the Dail dealing with the pressing issue of nominations for Taoiseach - has been voted in as a first-time entrant in the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards.
The doctor, who won quite the following after becoming Ireland's first openly-gay government minister, is considered one of our most photogenic politicians.
This is the first time that a minister has been nominated for one of the style accolades, which will be handed out in May.
But although Varadkar has been given the nod in the Most Stylish Man category, previous winner Brendan Courtney wasn't sure if Varadkar would be all that flattered.
"Look at the list - frankly, I'd say he's cringing to be included," said the former Off the Rails presenter.
When asked for what he thought of the politician's sartorial choices, top designer Courtney was succinct in his reply, describing him as "hot".
However, the Castleknock native - who once modelled in an Oireachtas fashion show wearing a natty pair of red trousers - will face some stiff competition if he's going to take home the gong.
Deputy Varadkar will be going up against an eclectic mixture of well-known men in the public eye - including Emmy-winner Baz Ashmawy, country music legend Nathan Carter and Kerry hunk Daithi O Se.
Another first-time entrant is Today FM broadcaster Matt Cooper, as well as singer Brian McFadden.
The Dublin crooner clearly thought his inclusion in the category was hilarious, given that he tweeted "Me, most stylish man?", accompanied by a laughing emoji.
He also posted a throwback picture of fellow Boyzlife star, Keith Duffy, as they both carried golf clubs and equipment - and looking anything but stylish.
He wrote: "Thanks VIP magazine. Clearly myself and Keith are obviously Ireland's most stylish men."
