College fees are back on the agenda says Quinn
COLLEGE fees are back on the political agenda, according to two Labour ministers.
Ruairi Quinn has warned that the "serious financial crisis" in the education sector has to be faced.
In the strongest hint yet that fees could be on the way back, the Education Minister said he was personally opposed to them but had to face reality.
"Putting a financial barrier in front of people on the way into college for children or young adults who had no previous experience of third-level has been shown to be a deterrent," he said.
However, the Dublin TD added: "That's not to say we don't have a serious financial crisis nationwide and also in the university sector, and we have to address that."
Social Protection Minister Joan Burton echoed those words by saying her ministerial colleague was "reflecting reality".
