Bike crime is on the rise in housing complexes in the Northwood area.

"Bike crime here is out of control," said Independent councillor Justin Sinnott.

Criminals are using angle grinders to cut through locks in order to steal bikes.

While residents have installed bike cages and have started using up to three locks in Santry apartment blocks, these have proven futile in warding off opportune criminals.

"They're cutting through the cages and the locks," Cllr Sinnott said.

The criminals are targeting the apartment blocks between the hours of 2am and 3am.

They cover their faces and therefore are unidentifiable in CCTV footage. Locals are urged to register their bike with gardai.
