Burglaries are on the rise in Rush with the permanent closure of the garda station there.

A number of New Year burglaries were reported in homes around the harbour area of the town.

Vans with up to four people in them were seen driving around suspiciously in the harbour area last month.

In one incident in the town two weeks ago, car keys were stolen off a hall table when thieves broke the glass in a front door, in order to access them. The vehicle was subsequently stolen.

Rush garda station has been closed since April 2012 and the area has been hit with burglaries and car thefts since.

The station in Lusk now takes care of the entire Rush area.
