Balbriggan: Balrothery hit by break-ins

Housing estates in the Balrothery area of Balbriggan have seen a rise in break-ins since Christmas.

The area, on the road from Dublin into Balbriggan, has been targeted because of easy access to the M1 for criminals, gardai believe.

Furthermore, newer housing estates in Skerries have been hit by burglaries as home owners are at work in the city during the day.

The majority of burglaries are happening between the hours of 3pm and 6pm.

It is understood that organised gangs have been carrying out the crimes but there are also a number of opportunistic criminals operating in the area.

With limited hours in Skerries Garda Station and the closure of the Rush station, locals are concerned about the level of policing.
