Ciara gets house deposit with €50k scratch card win
Young Dublin mum Ciara Douglas has had a Christmas to remember after winning a life-changing €50,000 - thanks to her sister, Orla.
Single mum Ciara (26) won the windfall on a National Lottery All Cash Platinum Scratch Card gifted by Orla.
"My 20-month-old son, Caleb, was up early on Christmas Day unwrapping his Santa presents under the tree," said Ciara.
"I was there in my pyjamas and decided to open my presents as well. Orla had given me a scratch card as part of my Christmas present, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw I'd won €50,000.
"There were roars and shouts coming from the sitting room - the entire family was up and full of excitement.
"Just to be sure, I went down to my local petrol station around 8am to have the card checked.
"After that, Christmas Day was simply a blur. The excitement was unreal."
Social worker Ciara, who lives in the family home, had long dreamt of owning a property of her own.
However, she reckoned it would have taken five years to save a deposit. Now she expects to move in next year.
An emotional Ciara said she is delighted at the prospect of finally getting on the property ladder.
"There are eight of us living at home at the moment," she said.
"I'd estimated that it would have taken me five years to save enough for a deposit, but this win means I'll probably have my own house some time next year.
"I'm overwhelmed. This really is a dream come through."
A lucky Cavan player won €112,000 on last night's Lotto Match 5 + bonus draw.
The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold in Costcutter, Railway Road, on the edge of Cavan town.
Thrilled shop owner Padraig Rudden said: "This really is the perfect way to end the year."
