Chef stole fake tan to help cut drug debt

A COMMIS chef’s life was under threat because of a drug debt when he shoplifted nearly €1,000 worth of fake tan, perfume, razors and video games, a court heard.

Garreth Byrne (30) stole the goods from pharmacies and supermarkets to make money to reduce what he owed.

Judge David McHugh gave him an 11-month suspended sentence at Blanchardstown District Court.

Byrne, of Cherrywood Avenue, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to stealing tanning lotion and razors worth €201 at Boots, Mill Shopping Centre, Clondalkin, last September 10.

He also admitted stealing self-tan worth €125 there on September 8, razors from Tesco, Convent Road, on September 7 and video games from Tesco, The Square, Tallaght last March 31.
