Charlene's profile gets a boost with new role as a chic student
RAW actress Charlene McKenna's career is set to get a boost as she's landed a leading role in a new Channel 4 series.
Talented Charlene told the Herald she was excited about working on Naked Apes, a comedy drama programme.
Filming for the series began this month in Leeds, and is expected to wrap up in time for the six hour-long episodes to air this summer.
"I'm playing a character who's very crusty, and chic," Charlene (26) said. "She's very liberated in her views. I'm really looking forward to it, it's a new challenge."
The Monaghan beauty will be playing the part of Angie, a history and politics student opposite Facejacker hunk Kayvan Novak.
Charlene, who was wearing a classic black gown at last week's IFTAS, missed out on the Best Actress award to pal Amy Huberman (31).
She revealed that the pair had considered staging a mock fight on the celebrity-studded night.
"It's so funny, myself and Amy had a good laugh over it because we're actually good friends," she said.
"We're also close to Ruth Bradley who was also nominated.
"The minute we all found out, we all texted and it was just lots of banter about all the craic we're going to have.
"We started joking saying we should stage a handbag fight for the press. There's no rivalry or anything like that between us at all.
"I know that's boring but honestly that's the truth."
Naked Apes will be following the hectic lives of three paramedics Stuart, Ashley and Rachid who are "forever forced to deal with humanity at its stupidest", according to a spokesperson.
