Three men were rushed to hospital in the terrifying accident.

Onlookers were left shocked at the scenes -- which unfolded on the Cheeverstown road in Tallaght.

Our exclusive pictures show the wreckage of the crash, which involved two men in their thirties in a Toyota and a local man in his 70s in a Mercedes.

The two cars involved in the crash were completely written off. Our pictures show the top of the Toyota car completely ripped off.

Emergency crew were called to the scene at around 1.30pm yesterday and spent several minutes cutting all three men out of the wreckage. They were then all taken by ambulance to hospital.

Personnel from An Garda Siochana, the fire service and the ambulance service were involved in the operation.

Dozens of residents from nearby estates came out to the scene of the crash after seeing the emergency services arrive.

One onlooker told the Herald: "The incident happened so fast. One of the victims is elderly and well known in the area. The scenes were absolutely shocking. It's a miracle nobody was killed."

Gardai spent several minutes diverting traffic with the crash causing significant delays in both directions.
