Car sales up by 29pc
CAR sales in Ireland ranked at 29pc higher last month than in the same month last year, according to the sector's trade body.
The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) said that sales came to 21,078 for January, a traditionally busy month in the trade.
SIMI has put the rise in sales down to the extension of the scrappage scheme for the first six months of this year. The society's director general Alan Nolan says interest in the scrappage scheme has been "very strong" so far this year.
