Car break-ins on the rise

Drumcondra has been hit with a spate of car break-ins.

Last week there were three alone on the neighbouring Dargle and Carlingford roads.

The two relatively small roads are busy with both residents and locals going to cafes there.

Fine Gael councillor Noel Rock believes that the surge is connected to the closure of Whitehall Garda Station and he has written to the Minister of Justice on the matter.

Another area of Drumcondra that has been hit with crime is the O'Daly Road, where there are just 48 houses. In the last six months there were three burglaries there alone.

It is an area that would not, traditionally, see much crime.
