Bungling trio of burglars caught red-handed at famed city pub
Three men have been arrested after being caught red-handed during a burglary at one of the city centre's most popular historical pubs.
The alarm was raised at 5am yesterday when intruders were spotted at The Lotts Cafe Bar on Liffey Street Lower off the north quays.
Gardai from the local Bridewell and the Regional Response Unit rushed to the scene and discovered that a pane of glass in the front door had been smashed.
One man was outside the pub, standing over stolen property including bottles of spirits on the pavement.
When gardai searched the premises they found two men inside.
A quantity of items from the pub were recovered from the scene.
All three men were arrested and questioned at the Bridewell Garda Station.
A spokesman for the pub declined to comment on the incident, which is believed to have been captured on CCTV from the premises and surrounding businesses.
"It seems like an amateur enough operation and not what you'd call very well organised," said a source.
The damage to the door could be seen yesterday morning, but the broken pane was replaced a short time later.
Business was not reported to have been affected by the burglary or clean-up operation.
The Lotts famously describes its snug as the smallest pub in Dublin.
