Bullies likely to abuse as adults

Boys who are bullies at school are at increased risk of abusing their partner later in life -- a link that US researchers say could hold potential for curbing domestic violence, which affects about a quarter of all US women.

While their study, published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, can't tease out cause and effect, the link appears to be surprisingly strong and warrants further study, said study leader Jay Silverman, a psychologist.

"For adolescents, the school context is very much a practice ground for behaviours as adults," he said.

Folk art forger in guilty plea

A 79-year-old man in the US has admitted forging paintings and selling them as work by famous folk artist Clementine Hunter.

William Toye of Louisiana, pleaded guilty in federal court to the charge.

"This defendant preyed upon the best of what our art community has to offer. It was all motivated by greed," US attorney Stephanie Finley said. "We hope that this case sends a message of the importance of protecting our artists and those who are patrons of the art."

Evacuations in blazing Arizona

Strong winds have whipped up a gigantic blaze in the mountains of eastern Arizona, forcing the evacuation of a third resort town and casting a haze over states as far away as Iowa.

Last night, a huge pall of black smoke loomed over the twin towns of Eager and Springerville, home to about 7,000 people, and residents were told to prepare to leave.

The winds and expected lightning storms will make matters worse in the area, which is dotted with cabins and campsites.
